Drymax Lite Trail Running Socks – Review

picture of drymax sock logo

During the summer I received 2 pairs of Drymax socks; one pair from the Outdoor Retailer Show and another at the Speedgoat 50k.   They failed my all important softness test when I handled them.  (This is how I evaluate everything from sheets to shoes to puppies.  Not exactly scientific, I know.)  But, for this reason they got stuffed in a drawer and ignored for a month.   When I did break them out of sock jail, I wore them not with running shoes but with cowboy boots.   During the day I was struck that my feet, normally hot inside the boots, were cool.   Still the poor Drymax socks did not get a run.   Next, I fell asleep with them on.  Socks get kicked off after 30 minutes under the covers but I was surprised to wake up the next morning, Drymax socks still on my feet.  No other sock has ever passed that test.   Finally the dim bulb starts to light up and I decide to wear them on a run.   I was leery given that they failed the all important softness test.   After my 10 mile run not only were my concerns put to rest but I had found my new favorite socks.    The fact that they are not soft made no difference in running comfort.  My feet were very well taken care of, especially on very steep downhills where my wool socks make my feet feel like they are on fire.

The Drymax Lite Trail Socks are not particularly thin yet the construction and materials keep my feet dry, cool and protected.  It’s been 3 months of running and they show no signs of failure.   I find myself looking for them as my first choice in the sock drawer.

As a winter sock this model is actually too cool as I found on a recent run.  For cold weather running I’ve fallen back to socks with wool.

There are a lot of great sock companies out there right now.  It’s hard to choose between them but Drymax has won me over… even when I bet against them.

They are a great socks. I have been a dry max sock guy for a few years. Never think of switching it up. If it works don’t fix it.
