$129 – Printed Puffy Blanket $99 – Original Puffy Blanket
Every now and again we get that one cool product to test that doesn’t seem to be quite directly related to running, but once we get into the testing phase we realize just how closely synced it is with what we do. Rumpl puffy blankets are just that item. We found that once we had it out of the bag it became a part of more runs and adventures than we could keep track of.
“The Rumpl Puffy Blanket uses the same technical materials found in premium sleeping bags and insulated puffy jackets. Utilizing a weather-resistant 20D ripstop nylon shell with DWR treatment, the blanket resists water, dirt, odor, pet hair, and other debris. The Puffy fits easily in an included stuff sack for quick storage or taking on the go.”
Rated down to 40 degrees F, the Rumpl blanket is amazing as a cover while sitting around the fire, staying warm at the starting line before a race, or even as an insulating ground cloth when you’re camping out the night before/after a big adventure. We took our Rumpls up to the Windrivers and Tetons of Wyoming, throughout the Wasatch mountains of Utah and all the way down to Zion National Park. We tested them as we bundled up in the parking lot following a midnight run to an 11,700 ft peak. And best of all, we tested them snuggled up to the ones we love most.
Here’s what we found:
Rumpl stayed true to their claim. The ripstop nylon was pretty resistant to small water spills and did an amazing job keeping dirt and debris off as it was dragged through and set outside of tents and around camp.
As for warmth, 40 degrees seemed pretty spot on. A cold night prior managing an aid station at the Speedgoat 50k at Snowbird ski resort made the blankets requisite as we sat around the fire and talked of past and future adventures. They were then thrown over summer rated sleeping bags as the night got unseasonably cold. Here’s a hint, if you’re going to use the blanket as added insulation to your sleeping bag, put it on the inside, not over you on the outside. You’ll get a lot more benefits from the synthetic insulation that way.
The Rumpl blanket also has two thumb catches on each end. This makes it easier to wrap yourself up and keep it over you when you’re trying to stay bundled. It’s also easier to hold onto when walking around, such as prior to the start of a race. Just make sure to hand the blanket off to someone trusted before you take off or you can say goodbye to your favorite snuggly.
Final thoughts:
Add this blanket to your list of race and camping gear and you’ll never want to leave home without it. It goes everyone with us and will be a part of our packables for everything we do in the future.
