The Montrail Trans Alps is a tank of a trail shoe. The Trans Alps is more suited for very technical trails, fast packing, or hiking. It is a very heavy running shoe for heavy duty goals. The Trans Alps has a full foot rockplate. The burly tread has 6mm lugs work very well on snow, ice, mud, and loose rocks. On a hiked in Jackass Canyon in Arizona on hard sandstone and in loose sand, shoe performed well with some scrambling involved. The Trans Alps gripped sufficiently. The shoe has a roomy fit, and fits true to size. The Trans Alps has comfortable cushioning, but is very rigid.  Even after a break in period, the shoe did not soften up. TAUR Tester Qoutes

“This would be a good shoe for someone who likes a durable workhorse, that is firm and tough.”

“Very stiff, heavier ride for a trail shoe, might be better suited for a hiker”
