NorthFace Ultra Vertical Review

NorthFace Ultra Vertical

Price –$120.00

TAUR RATED – 4.04

The North Face Ultra vertical replaces the Ultra MT model. It is a lightweight trail shoe designed to give you maximum traction and performance on rugged trails, while still being light and comfortable. The shoes are designed to be comfortable right out of the box. They offer FlashDry collar that fits snugly around the foot, keeping water out. The upper is also a breathable mesh which allows the shoes to dry quickly without retaining water. This seems to really work and the shoes do dry very quickly and breathe very well. The toe box is foot shaped allowing your toes to splay, but it isn’t so much that the shoe loses its effectiveness in steep rugged terrain like some shoes with a wider foot shape.

“I tested the shoes in several different types of terrain, but after about 40 miles they became my go to shoe for peak bagging and scrambling. I was very impressed with the durability and traction.”

The midsole combines two EVA foam layers that provide excellent cushion while also being very responsive. The system seems to really work and the shoes have a comfortable feel and provide excellent cushion and support. They are also very stable and ride very well in techy terrain.

The outsole is a Vibram Megagrip with 5mm lugs that are designed to perform in any type of terrain that you throw at them. Our testers took these shoes up steep mountain trails and were very impressed with the traction on rock, snow, ice and mud.

“The North Face has really found a niche with the Ultra Vertical and it will continue to be a big part of my running this summer.”

This is an excellent trail shoe for longer days in technical terrain. They offer excellent traction and support and are still comfortable enough to ride well for a lot of miles, making them a fantastic choice for long mountain days. The TNF Ultra Vertical is that perfect shoe that sits right between the Lightwave TR and Ultra Endurance. With a slightly lower stack height than the Ultra Endurance, but more protection under foot than the Lightwave. It’s designed as a true long distance and big mountain shoe.

“The shoe is designed for more technical terrain with a beefed up outsole that has excellent traction. I found that the shoes worked incredibly well in just about every type of trail conditions where I ran. The shoes were excellent for rock scrambling and had phenomenal tread on snow and Slippery trails. They were a lot more comfortable than expected and my feet always felt very comfortable in Rocky and technical terrain. With a soft upper the shoe war extremely comfortable and also breathed well. As soft as the upper is, it was kind of surprising how durable the shoes actually were.this is an excellent all purpose shoe that can be used in almost any type of terrain.”
