Winter Outdoor Retailer Show – Day 1
Once again it’s time for the Outdoor Retailer Show in Salt Lake City. This time it’s the Winter Market. Here are some of the trends, and products, we’ll be reporting about and that you’ll be seeing in stores soon.
Socks, Socks and More Socks
Wow and I mean… WOW! Seems that hundreds of people collectively woke up with the same idea…. the World needs more performance socks. Question is, how many are just seeing the sheer number of competitors they face. Craig Lloyd will be actively collecting socks during OR for the great sock challenge. Good luck Craig; make sure you bring a suitcase.
There are no less than 10 snowshoe related companies at OR. I’ll be meeting with a number of them for an upcoming piece on outdoor winter cross-training. There is no better time of year to explore the backcountry for those of us runners and ultra runners who live in deep snow packs.
Ski and Splitboard Backcountry Access
Greater numbers of people are heading to the backcountry during the winter months. Ski and splitboard touring are seeing the greatest growth in their respective markets. With this trend toward backcountry access, companies are quickly jumping in with more boots, skis, bindings, boards, poles and emergency equipment offerings.
We may be ultra runners but the Winter OR show still has a lot to keep us intrigued!
