Altra Torin 2.5

The Altra Torin 2.5 is the latest version of Altra’s #1 selling road shoe.  A new upper compliments their award winning Abound midsole and trademark Footshape, ZeroDrop design. It may not be the most attractive looking shoe on the market, but what matters most is the comfortable and smooth ride. Altra has made improvements on the previous model in midsole stability and cushion. The heel cup is more secure and comfortable, while the tread and upper are more durable even when used on multiple longer runs or off-road, not intended. New color scheme and overall design are more appealing. The shoe overall is a very comfortable shoe for longer, moderately-paced road running.

Our testers averaged 150 to 200 miles in their shoes on a wide variety of terrain, including road, and trails. Testers used the shoes on sort and long runs. Most of the testers agreed that the shoes ran smoothly and comfortable, with no major issues. After the trials of miles, the shoes showed normal wear and tear. The Torin 2.5 is a responsive cushioned shoe, however this is not your track work out shoe.

Our biggest criticism of the shoe would probably be its’ aesthetics. This could possibly be just because it is wider in the toe box than any other shoe on the market. To our testers, this is the major only downfall they could find in the shoe. Additionally, the new upper, while more durable than previous versions, it doesn’t breathe as well and we’ve found our foot a little warmer than normal on afternoon runs.

The major strength of the shoe would be the overall comfort of the shoe during the runs.  This is one of our favorite shoes because of how comfortable it was throughout our runs. The colors are fun. It has a cushiony sole. Thanks to the wide toe box we did not suffer pain with toenails.

The Torin 2.5 has been the perfect shoe for training on the road when you are not able to get out to the trails.  An ideal shoe for any road race, of any distance, as well as non-technical trails up to 50K.
