I make it a practice to climb Mt Olympus many times a year. Winter is usually my favorite time, especially once the trail is packed out. It makes moving over the usually technical terrain much easier and quicker. While still a very steep trail (4000 vertical gain in 3 miles), it is just an easier trail when it’s covered in snow. However, after big storms and before the trail gets tracked out to the top, it can be a brutal final climb from the saddle. That is how we found it after a storm dropped more than 2 feet of new snow in the Wasatch Mountains.
